FIRE SEASON

there's a stillness dry as leaves
scattered all around this house
and it crackles underneath
as the wire is tightly wound
it'd only take one careful spark
from the stone we circle round
to ignite our hallowed ground

and even though I've come so close
to understanding the reason
I take cover from
the fire season

let's forget the changing winds
that brought us here today
what these walls keep holding in
is the chance we'll slip away
but I am never giving up
for as long as love remains
there is one thing left unchanged

even though you hold me close
as your confidence is reeling
you take cover from
the fire season

but I lit the fuse
and I won't let it be
let it burn through you
let it burn through me
if the house falls down
may the flames wash us clean
if there's one thing we can prove
life is never fireproof

our love's on sacred ground
we'll make it through some how
hear the siren sound
it's the fire season
